Scripture: His winnowing fork is in His hand and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering His wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire; (Matt. 3:12 NIV).
Here is a word of terror to the careless and secure. Our corrupt hearts cannot be made to produce good fruit unless the regenerating Spirit of Christ grafts the good Word of God upon them. Every tree that is high in gifts and honors, no matter how green it may appear, if it does not bring forth good fruit, then it is hewn down and cast into the fire of God’s wrath; (the appropriate place for barren trees). If not fit for fruit, they are fit for fuel.
No outward forms can make us clean. The purifying and cleansing power of the Holy Spirit alone can produce that purity of heart and those holy affections which accompany salvation. It is Christ who baptizes with the Holy Spirit; (Acts 2:4).
True believers are as wheat, substantial, useful and valuable. The ungodly are as chaff, light and empty, useless and worthless, carried about with every wind. The ungodly are the reverse of the righteous both in character and condition. The ungodly are led by the counsel of the wicked, in the way of sinners, to the seat of the scornful, they have no delight in the law of God; they bring forth no fruit but what is evil. They are like dust, chaff which blows away. They are easily driven to and fro by every wind of temptation. The wicked or ungodly laugh at divine revelation and they take counsel against the Lord and his people. They are vain and empty without the knowledge of God. They are light in their principles and unstable in all their ways being tossed to and fro, and they have no peace.
The doom of the ungodly is fixed, there is a day coming when the wheat and chaff shall be separated. The last judgment will be the distinguishing day when saints and sinners shall be parted forever. The pronged winnowing fork which throws up the grain against the wind is coming to remove the chaff. Jesus, the coming one, will put an end to the present mixture of wheat and chaff. He will thoroughly purge the threshing floor of this world, gathering the good into one safe place and destroying the evil.
May God’s grace and peace be with you today and forever.
Much love and many blessings,
