Scripture: Let every soul be subject unto the high powers. For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever, therefore, resisteth the power resisteth the ordinance of God; and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation (Romans 13:1-2 KJV).
The highest authority is God. No other powers exist except what God has ordained. He established the governing authorities and delegates all leadership.
Romans 13:1-2, tells us that everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities. He is the only source of which all power flows, and He delegates all authority.
There are several forms of human government designed for men and by men. And there are those in power who assume it of themselves. Those who abuse their power are subject to judgment. He who rebels against the governing authorities rebels against what God has instituted.
Jesus is our example of the behavior and attitude of those in leadership or authoritative positions. The Bible is clear about the relationship between the believer and the government. We are to submit ourselves to God and to the governing authorities established by Him. All government and authorities exist to serve those they govern. They are to treat those whom they govern justly and with fairness. Even if those in leadership positions do not live up to their roles, we should still live up to godly standards.
As Christians, if we are asked to do anything that is in direct disobedience to God or His Word, we are to respectfully disobey those in leadership. If we feel the request jeopardizes our lives or the lives of our loved ones, we should respectfully decline the request. The law extends a waiver stating “For Religious Beliefs” meaning, with all due respect, we believe the request is against our by-laws. We are to remain loyal and stand in faithful and confidence of the Lord’s power to protect and deliver us from whatever is against us (Psalm 91:14-15; Dan. 3:16-18).
God must be first in everything that concerns us. He will not take second place to anyone or anything. He should be first in our hearts, home, schools, businesses, government, marketplaces, and everywhere. God will not bless what He has not authorized. Change starts with God. Everything is subject to change, either for good or for bad, but God remains the same. James 4:7 tells us to submit ourselves to God, resist the devil, and he will flee, and in due time God will exalt us. The humble of heart are submissive. Obedience requires us to humble ourselves and allows us to surrender to God, and to governing authorities.
After putting God first and keeping Him first, we begin to see change and everything will come to order. God is a holy God and He will not allow sin to rule. God is faithful to fulfill His every promise. The choice is yours. Would you prefer more of the same or perhaps a better life in Jesus Christ is suitable for you?
Blessing to you!
Amen
