Scripture: For this cause, we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; (Colossians 1:9-11 KJV).

This is 1 of the 4 short letters written by the Apostle Paul while imprisoned in Roman (A.D.60-62). Although it is addressed to the saints and faithful brethren at Colossae, it is also relevant to us today. Not only does Paul instruct us to walk worthy of our calling, but he labored in prayer that we will be able to do so. He prayed that we would know the will of God for our lives. He asked God to give us wisdom, to increase our knowledge, and to give us an understanding of the holy things of God. That we would conduct our lives consistently with Jesus’ life. In a manner that is both pleasing and fruitful unto God. That we would live our lives wisely and not wastefully. Making contributions by serving the Lord, possessing fruit that has eternal value.

In Ephesians 4:1-2, Paul as a prisoner for the Lord urges us to live a life worthy of the vocation in which we have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love. Meekness is an excellent disposition of the soul. Meekness is simply patience under control. We are instructed to walk humbly with lowliness of mind and in meekness of spirit. When we walk in love and in meekness we are not easily provoked or offended. For the Lord’s sake, we are to heed our conversations, speak well of others, and rid ourselves of all evil practices and wickedness. Our conversations should be heavenly. We should exemplify love, encourage, and support one another whenever difficulties tend to arise in our lives.

The doctrine of grace has been made known to us. We are to promote godliness. We are saved out of darkness and into light by the grace of God.  Out of bondage and into liberty, and out of the world and into fellowship with Christ, it is by His Spirit that we are free. We are to walk as children of light and liberty. As partakers of such privileges, we should desire to walk worthy of our calling. Being one in Christ and having God’s grace equips us to accomplish these things. We have received gifts and talents that enable us for service and have prepared us for ministry work. Christ’s death and resurrection afforded us the ability to be able to live life abundantly and successfully.

Therefore, in view of God’s mercy, we are to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy, pleasing and acceptable unto God, this is our spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1 NIV). We should not only be faithful to our calling as Christians but in our relationships as well. We should live as those called with a high and holy calling. In holiness and in righteousness unto God and in conformity to his revealed will which is good, perfect, and acceptable. Our business is to honor, serve, and please God.

We must teach our children the word of God. We should talk about the word of God daily, read and study the Scriptures and apply them. Let your children talk and listen to them. Form their thinking with truth and guide them in their growth. Talk about your experiences. Lead by example and observe the results. You will know that they are growing because you will see a change. This is a wholesome recipe for success in their lives which can be passed down as a legacy to them and future generations.
