Scripture: No man can come to me, except the Father which has sent me draw him; and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6:44 KJV).
Like a moth to a flame drawn by a fire, in a sense, we too are drawn to God by His will. No man can come to Jesus on his own accord. He does not have the power, the ability or the will to do so within himself. It is the powerful internal influence of the grace of God in the act of drawing that brings us to Jesus. When God draws us it is an act of power and not of force, He enlightens our understanding and gives us a heart of flesh. He allures us by the power of His grace and engages the soul of a man to come to Christ. He draws us with grace and with love.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; and I have drawn you with unfailing kindness”
(Jeremiah 31:3).
The Greek word translated “draw” is “helkuo” which literally means “to drag.” God draws us to salvation. If He did not draw us we would never come. The natural man has no desire to come on his own. His heart is hard and his mind is dark. The unregenerate person does not desire God.
In the statement “no man can come unless God draws him,” Jesus is addressing the total depravity of a sinner. Sin is a barrier to faith. This person has no faith of himself because faith is a gift from God given by the operation of His Spirit. This person, being dead in his trespasses and sin, dwells in darkness and is blind to spiritual things. He has no knowledge of his condition. We don’t come to God when we get ready. The natural man has no power to do so. Only those who have been drawn through special revelation by the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of God will come to Christ.
The Father’s will is that no one shall be rejected or lost. By His divine grace, He draws those whom He has chosen to come to Him for His reason and for His purpose. God’s desire is that all men come to know the love that He has for us. It is the duty of a man to hear and receive God’s offer of grace.
The Awakening:
- The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sinful state. We then become aware of our need for a Savior.
- We receive a new heart of flesh in place of the previous stony one.
- He awakens us to spiritual things. Our ears are opened and our hearts bend towards God.
- The Word of God becomes alive to us giving us the desire to know more about God.
- We discover who we are in Christ and that our citizenship is in heaven, making us temporary citizens here on earth.
- We began to discern spiritual truths that could never make sense before this. (1 Cor. 2:14)
- We discover new desires which He created within us.
- Our new heart causes us to walk in obedience and in the newness of life. (Romans 6:4)
In conclusion, the Gospel finds none willing to be saved, but God draws us with His word by His Spirit. This is one of the greatest truths in the Bible. We cannot even seek God on our own. God has to draw us to Himself through the ministry of the Holy Spirit (John 16:7-11).
God’s blessings to you!

After he draws, he fills. I would like to just hitch on your post, John 16:16 I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Jesus said he is the 1.way 2. Truth and 3. Life. ( when you receive the Holy Ghost comes it will lead you and guide you into all truth). We have the best teacher living inside is just as promised, jrsus did not leave us comfort less he sent back the promise. God bless you…. Keep you and continue to lead you into all truth.
