He Did It Once For All Forever

By His stripesScripture: For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted. (Hebrews 2:18 KJV)

In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy satans power over death and free those whose lives were held in bondage by their fear of death.

“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it”.
(Col. 2:15)

For this reason, he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and make atonement for our sins. He sacrificed himself to save us from sins penalty of death, thereby reconciling us unto God. He made the way for us to be delivered from the bondage of sin.

To open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light and from the power of satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in God.
(Acts 26:18)

According to John Gill’s Commentary, Sin is a disease belonging to all men, a natural, hereditary, and incurable disease. But by the blood of Christ, our sins are forgiven and healing of this disease comes through the stripes, the wounds, and the blood sacrifice.

It was for our sins that our Lord Jesus suffered. We all have sinned and have come short of the glory of God. Our sins deserve grief and sorrows, yet we are saved from ruin by the laying of our sins upon Christ. This atonement was made for the forgiveness of our sins. This is the only way to salvation. Our sins were the thorns in Christ’s head, the nails in his hands and feet, the spear in his side. He was delivered to death for our offenses. By his sufferings, he purchased for us the Spirit and grace of God to mortify our corruptions which are the distempers of our souls.

He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him. The punishment of our sins was inflicted on him, whereby our peace and reconciliation with God was made by Him. Divine wrath was appeased, justice is satisfied, and peace is made and with His stripes, we are healed. Having made peace through his blood we are healed. Literally, we are healed! The healing here refers to spiritual healing, pardon of sin, and restoration to the favor of God. Our souls are in right standing with God declaring us fit for service, all because of the love of God and the passion of the Christ.

Much love and many blessings,
