“Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life”; (John 4:13-14 NASB).
There’s nothing more refreshing and satisfying than drinking clean, crisp water, especially when you’re tired and thirsty. That’s exactly how Jesus felt after he traveled from Judea to Samaria.
In the story of the Samaritan Woman, Jesus sits at Jacob’s well, waiting for her to come and draw water. Upon her arrival, she encountered Jesus sitting there. Jesus asked her for a drink of water as a way to offer her a better quality of water.
At this time in history, Jews had no association with Samaritans, so the woman couldn’t believe He was speaking to her. She didn’t know that Jesus was there to offer her a drink of living water from the eternal fountain that never ceases to flow.
Unaware that this water was a gift from God, she asked him where He got this living water, and she listened intently as Jesus explained the details of His offer. She was oblivious to the fact that He was offering her a lifestyle change.
He told her to call her husband and come back. She replied, “I do not have a husband.” Jesus said, “You have spoken correctly, for you have had five husbands, and you are living with a man who is not your husband.”
After Jesus told her all that He witnessed about her life, the woman became so excited that she anxiously rushed off, leaving her water vessels behind. She had to testify to the townspeople regarding the man she met at the well. The Bible reads, “Many of the Samaritans BELIEVED her testimony, and they FOLLOWED her back to Jesus.”
