Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend; (Proverb 27:17 ASV).
When two iron blades come in contact with each other, the edges of the blade become sharper and more effective in cutting and slicing. Likewise, the Word of God is like a double edge sword.
For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces sharply. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where the soul and spirit, bone, and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. There is not one person who can hide their thoughts from God; (Heb. 4:12-13a PTB).
God’s Word is quick and powerful, it also speaks of the sacred and divine Word as cutting through all things, dividing all perceptible objects, and penetrating even to those called indivisible, separating the different parts of the soul. More cutting than one, by the words of His mouth, by the power of His Spirit, and the efficacy of His grace.
Proverb 27:17 also indicates the need for fellowship, to teach, commune, pray, and all corporate activities that provide opportunities for sharpening one another. Two minds, thus acting on each other, become more acute.
Relationships with other influential people influence the appearance, deportment, and character of another. Wit sharpens wit, controls conduct, and brightens the countenance of another. Wittiness has to do with being quick and clever. Having the ability to think and act quickly.
Let us encourage one another and purpose to spend more time together, exhorting, encouraging, praying, admonishing, sharing the Gospel Message, and becoming sharper. In all that you say and do, do it for the Glory of God!
