Scripture: The other disciples told him (Thomas), “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe”; (John 20:25 NIV).
After the resurrection, Jesus appeared before His disciples to comfort them and proclaim His victory over death. Thomas was not present and so the other disciples told him about the visitation and the good news. However, Thomas has his doubts and he needs physical proof; (John 20:19-28).
Knowing Thomas’ weakened faith Jesus accommodated him. As a note to us, Jesus said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet they believe”; (v.29). Jesus knew that once he ascended to heaven He would send the Holy Spirit who would enable us to believe that in which we do not see with our eyes.
The Apostle Peter stated, “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end results of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:8-9)
Whenever you find yourself doubting God’s Word, go to Him in prayer. Like Thomas cry out to Him, “Lord, help my unbelief.” Recognize that spiritual battles require the proper equipment therefore, arm yourself by putting on the full armor of God; (Eph. 6:10-19). Raise the shield of faith and be prepared to follow Christ!
