Set Your Mind and Keep It Set

Scripture: Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2 NIV).

The word “set” means to become fixed; as something that has hardened. We are to set our minds on things above and not on earthly things while having a permanent focus. Heaven and earth cannot be followed together. For where the mind goes, the man is sure to follow.

Where you set your mind will determine your direction. You will either follow the flesh or the Spirit. Spiritually speaking, those who live according to the flesh set their thoughts on the things of the flesh. Those who live according to the Spirit set their minds and hearts on the words of the Spirit. Set your affections on the things above and not on earthly things. For where your treasures are there, your heart will be; (Matt. 6:21).

The best things are above, and our conversation should be heavenly. We should value holy things and set our affections on them. Philippians 4:8 instructs us on the things that are in line with wise thoughts. Think on whatever is pure, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, whatever is excellent, and whatever is praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8).

These are all keys that lead to godly living. Take one step at a time, pray for guidance, and read and meditate on the Word of God. Set your mind and keep it set and let Jesus be the Lord of your life.

My prayer is that you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds everything that we understand. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Bountiful blessings from me to you!
