Scripture: Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plant bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.” And God saw that it was good; (Gen. 1:11-12 NIV).

God the Father is the Gardener (John 15:1). As the Gardener, God maintains the orchard with tender loving care. A good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree produces bad fruit. Any tree that does not bear fruit He takes away and every branch that bears fruit He prunes. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. The goal of the matter is to bear much fruit. As followers of Christ, God wants us to increase and He gives us the opportunity to do so. After God created man the next thing that He did was bless him and then he said, “Be fruitful and multiply” (Gen. 1:28). Therefore, the fruit of our bodies is blessed.

The Holy Spirit produces fruit in us that reflects His nature. The Holy Spirit has a nine cluster of fruit which consists of the following (Gal. 5:22-23):

• love
• joy
• peace
• patience
• kindness
• goodness
• faithfulness,
• gentleness
• self-control

His primary purpose for this is to transform the life of a Christian by the renewing of the mind through molding the person’s character into the image of Christ. Our patience develops and grows during this process.

A seed of a fruit always produces after its own kind. An apple seed will not produce an orange, nor will an orange seed produce an apple. When a seed is planted there is a waiting period. During the waiting process the seed must be watered in order for it to grow. For the Christian the Word of God is the seed, (Luke 8:11). The heart of man is the ground in which the seed is planted and in due season it will bring forth its fruit produced by the Holy Spirit.

If you were to a plant a tree, you would expect to see the fruit of that tree. Fruit can be either good or bad. The result of man’s fruit depends on the condition of the heart (Matt. 15:19). The flesh or the sinful nature causes us to act ungodly and sinful behavior produces works of the flesh. The Holy Spirit’s job is to conquer the opposing sinful desires that are at work in us. Works of the spirit produces life while works of the flesh produces death. The principle being the same spiritually as it is naturally. If you sow to the flesh and you will reap corruption, but he that sows to the Spirit shall reap everlasting life (Gal. 6:8). Righteous sowing reaps a sure reward (Prov. 11:18). The result of your spiritual fruit is that God is glorified.

As you embark on your spiritual journey remember that it is a journey of growth and prosperity. Gaining wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual insight is our goal. Open your mind to the destiny of God’s good plans for your future and enjoy the journey!
