The LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people, and your father’s household to the land I will show you; and I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing; (Gen. 12:1-2 NIV).
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son…And they journeyed south. Because of his disobedience, Abram feared for his life, and as he entered Egypt, he told is wife to lie and say that she was his sister.
When Pharaoh and his princes saw Sarai they admired her beauty; believing that she was single they took her to Pharaoh’s house to prepare her to wed. And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house because of Sarai, Abram’s wife; (v.v. 5,9,15,17).
They journey to the land of Canaan and they acquired great wealth, so much that the land could not support them while they dwell there together. A quarrel arouse between the herdsmen, so Abram and Lot amicably parted ways. Lot chose the richer land; (Gen. 13:14).
In the next chapter, a war broke out between several kings; Lot and many others were taken captive. When Abram heard that Lot had been taken captive, he led a force of 318 trained men to rescue Lot; (Gen. 14:14). Abram had to risk his life to save Lot.
Abram’s troubles began because he chose to disobeyed God. The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death”; (Prov. 14:12). Both of them could have been killed. Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death. Death could come to one or an entire generation.
Moral of this story: Every sin has a consequence. Therefore, ALWAYS obey God, even if you don’t understand. Obey God and leave the consequences to HIM! Obedience is better than sacrifice; (1st Sam. 15:22).
Prayer: Father God, I glorify your Great and Holy name. I am so grateful that You are a forgiving God and that there are no sins that You won’t forgive when a sinner repents and ask for Your forgiveness. Not only are You faithful to forgiven the sinner, but You don’t remember that sin ever again. Thank You that You see Your children through the loving eyes of Jesus and by faith we are forgiven when we sin because of the sacrifice that He made for us. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
