My God Turns Darkness into Light

Christians have been called out of darkness and into the marvelous light. As God’s elect, we were chosen for a foundation that is everlasting. Precious beyond compare, because our foundation is built upon Christ and His Cross. This gives us a firm foundation to stand on whenever life presents us with challenges.

Within the Scriptures, light is an image of prosperity, success, happiness, and holiness. A candle (a light), signifies safety, comfort, glory, and posterity. A burning lamp is a natural metaphor for the continuance of life, as well as prosperity.

Darkness is the total opposite of light. Walking in darkness means walking void of all light, including inward and outward light. To walk in darkness means that you’re walking with unsure footing, and there isn’t a firm foundation to stand on.

In spite of adversity, the psalmist David felt assured that God would give him prosperity, as though his lamp burned constantly in his dwelling. Whenever David felt discouraged, he took his eyes off of himself, and he remembered his God. He asked himself, “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” (Ps. 43:5).

David’s soul was anchored in the Lord, so much so, that whenever he felt out of sorts, he would encourage himself by confession: “Lord, thou wilt light my candle; thou wilt revive and comfort my sorrowful spirit; thou wilt guide my way, that I may avoid the snares laid for me. Thou wilt light my candle to work by, and give me an opportunity of serving thee; (Ps. 18:28).

As an example, David’s prayer life should encourage us, to encourage ourselves, whenever we feel downtrodden in our spirit. We are guaranteed mountain top experiences, as well as, times of going through the valley; (Ps. 23:4). Whether you’re high on the mountain, or down in the valley, continue to speak the word of God over your life. The power is in your mouth!

Speak life into your situations by making positive confessions. “The Lord is my light and my salvation of whom shall I fear? My God will bring me out of darkness and adversity. The Lord my God will shed light on my path and I will have the fulfilling enjoyment of the light of His countenance. He will impart light on my understanding and put peace and joy in my heart. His joy is my strength. He will crown me with everlasting favor!” These are powerful words that strengthen and encourage us to continue running our race and to finish victoriously.

Never allow yourself to be overcome by the vicissitudes of life. As long as God is your Source of Light, there is light at the end of every tunnel. Depend on the Only Source of Life to light your path. After all, you have been called out of darkness, into the marvelous light. Let your light shine brightly for others to see, and give glorify God!

Prayer: “May all who walk in darkness and labor under discouragements, take courage. God be a Light to them, and they shall never walk in darkness again. May all be well with their souls. In Jesus’s name amen.”

Be well, my friends!

  1. Hello! YES! This is so very powerful as my husband and I was struck with darkness when he received a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. But, like David, we took our eye’s off of us and lifted them towards our help.

You are so right that we have a firm foundation to stand on. The cancer has disappeared in 9 of the 11 places and we are yet believing God for TOTAL healing and not remission!

    Blessings,

  2. Yes this is very powerful. David had to remind himself where his help came from whenever he lost his way. As a Christian I have to remind myself daily I can do all things christ which strengthens me. To God be the glory in all things

    1. Hi Ty! Whenever I feel overwhelmed, sometimes I have to calm myself down, relax, and remind myself, as you stated, ‘ I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” By recalling the last hard place we faced, and remembering how we were able to make it through then, will help to strengthen our faith again. Thank you for your comment!
