What makes the Bible unique from all other books is the fact that, although it was penned by different authors from different walks of life, its cohesiveness is attributed to one Author, God. The Bible is the inerrant Word of God. It’s comprised of sixty-six books, which were written individually on three different continents, in different languages, over a period of approx. 1500 years. The writers were from different backgrounds and occupations. Some were kings, fishermen, priests, government officials, farmers, shepherds, and doctors. Yet the Bible remains one unified book from beginning to end without contradiction. Its unity is unique from all other books, and is evidence of the divine origin of the words which God moved men to record. Within its pages, the Bible contains the following subjects:

  • Law: Leviticus; Deuteronomy; (Decrees, rules and regulations).
  • Historical: Genesis, Exodus; Numbers; (Writings and documents).
  • Wisdom: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes; (Spiritual Discernment).
  • Poetry: The Songs of Solomon; (Poetically written).
  • Prophecy: Daniel, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Revelation; (Past and Future occurrences).
  • Biographies: The Apostles; (Testimonies).
  • Epistles: Acts through Jude; (Formal letters).

The Bible is divided into two main parts, the Old Testament, which has a total of 39 books, and the New Testament, which has a total of 27 books. The Old Testament gives us the history of Israel, God’s chosen people. Through Israel’s bloodline, God chose to bring forth the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ into the world. Once Israel was established as a nation, God raised up a family within that nation through whom the blessing would come; (Ps. 89:3-4).

The New Testament is the second half of the Bible. The New Testament opens about 400 years later after the Old Testament, starting with the genealogy of Jesus and goes on to tell of his birth; (Matthew Chapter 1 -2). Jesus was the descendant promised to Abraham and David. He came to fulfill God’s plan of redemption, reconciling mankind back to God, and restoring creation. Jesus faithfully completed His assignment as the promised Messiah, when He died for the sins of the world, and rose from the dead. The death of Christ is the basis for a new covenant (testament), with the world. All who have faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ will be saved, if repentance and confession of Jesus as Savior is made; (Rom. 10:9).

While the Old Testament is the story of a nation, Israel, Jesus is the central character and the main subject throughout the entire Bible. He is more than a historical figure, in the New Testament Jesus is God revealed; (Heb. 1:1-3). The term “revelation” means that God communicated to mankind what He is like, and how we can have a right relationship with Him. The things revealed in the Bible are things that we could not have known had God not divinely revealed them to us via His written Word.

The Bible has testimonies of actual life occurrences that have been witness by men who confessed to life changing miracles. The divine origin of the Bible is its unique authority and power. Its authority is unlike any other book ever written. This authority and power are best seen in the way countless lives that have been transformed by the supernatural power of God’s Word. Drug addicts have been delivered, homosexuals have seen set free, hardened criminals have been transformed and reformed. Those held by the bondage of sin have been set free. The Bible has dynamic transforming power that is only possible because it is the power of God.

The Bible accurately and truthfully records historical verifiable events as a great indication of its truthfulness when dealing with religious subjects and doctrines. The internal evidences that indicates the Bible is truly God’s Word is the numerous amount of detailed prophecies relating to the future of individual nations and mankind. There are over three hundred prophecies concerning Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. Not only was His birth was foretold, but also how He would die, be buried and rise. There simply is no logical way to explain the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible other than by divine origin. There is no other religious book with the extent or type of predictive prophecy that the Bible contains.

The Bible has suffered more vicious attacks and attempts to destroy it than any other book in history. It has withstood and outlasted all of its attackers and is still today the most widely published book in the world.  It continues to be attacked by pseudo-science, psychology, and political movements, yet it remains just as true and relevant today as it was when it was first written. Regardless of the number of threats and attacks on the Bible, the word of God remains the same, it always comes out unchanged. (Continue to page 2)
