Scripture: The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outside appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart; (1 Sam. 16:7b NIV).
We often form opinions by the outward character of a person. Man looks at the stature of another man and then he judges by size, sharpness, and the livelihood of a man. God on the other hand judges by the heart of a man. He knows what is in man’s heart. God values love, faith and the obedience of a man.
Our biggest problems are not external, but internal. With the heart being the core of our being, in its natural condition, the heart is evil and deceitful above all things. Out of the heart come evil thoughts, greed, envy, theft, adultery, and folly; (Mark 7:21-23). God searches the heart and tests the mind; (Jere. 17:10). He knows every secret of the heart.
God can literally plant His desires into the heart of man. This happens when we come to him in repentance and accept the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. He then removes our stony heart and replaces it with a heart of flesh; (Ezek. 11:19). He accomplishes this supernaturally by implanting His spirit into our hearts.
We must be careful of the things that we allow to enter into our hearts. It’s important to protect our gates. By entertaining unwholesome things we affect the heart and mind. The things that we view or listen to and the things that we spend the most time entertaining, these things affect our thinking. Listening to bad language, watching lustful TV shows, in general, are bad behavioral seeds sown into the mind. These seeds grow and eventually show from the inside to the outside. It’s the things that you allow to enter into your gates that affect your thinking.
Therefore, I encourage you to guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life; (Prov. 4:23). Change your thinking and you will change your life.
Much love and many blessings,
