The Surpassing Peace of God

The Peace of GodScripture: “And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]” Phil. 4:7 Ampl. Bible.

The peace that surpasses all understanding is the highest form of peace. Those whose minds are stayed on God receive the peace of God. They aren’t anxious for anything.

Godly Peace is Incomprehensible.

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” –  Phil. 4:7 KJV.

The peace of God is a calming, heavenly rest; the tranquility of spirit that only God can give.

Webster’s Dictionary defines peace as a state of tranquility or quiet; freedom from civil disturbance; freedom from oppressive thoughts or emotions. A state of peace of mind or imagination. It also brings harmony to relationships.

“Shall keep” is a military term, which means that the mind would be guarded as a camp or castle. A garrison is an army post, a permanent military installation, to station troops. Your peace would be preserved from the intrusion of anxious fears. Only through Jesus can the mind be preserved in peace. Christ keeps every heart at ease in which He dwells and rules.

“You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You, in both inclination and character]. Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].”  – Isaiah 26:3 Ampl. Bible

Maintaining Perfect Peace.

The key verse to remaining peaceful is found in Phil. 4:8-9. The Apostle Paul provides an amazing solution for mind-transforming thinking. It reads, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. And the peace of God will be with you.

Whatsoever things are honest in the sight of men, with respect to God and men. Whatsoever is pure or moral, in words and deeds. Whatsoever things are holy and praiseworthy, things of good report, think on these things. Those who are in right standing with God have the peace of God.”

Nothing can separate us from the covenant promises of God. They are firmly fixed on the faithfulness and the power of God. This peace is a gift that the world cannot give and most certainly the world cannot take. However, it is possible to give your peace away. No one can take it unless you allow it.

The Gospel of Peace

It is important to know and understand that Jesus laid down His life to make peace between God and sinners. Sharing the message of peace begins with having a personal relationship with God before the message of transcending peace can be delivered.

Jesus addressed the importance of being a peacemaker when he taught the Beatitudes to the multitudes and his disciples. He said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” (Matt. 5:9 KJV).

The Apostle John testified saying “Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God” 1 John 3:1a.

Galatians 3:26 reads “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

I testify to you this day that we are blessed by God to be peacemakers on the earth.

Be a peacemaker and tell others of the love of Christ and the peace of God. And at all cost hold on to your peace. Do not give it away.

Blessings of love from me to you!
