Scripture: How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked. Nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers; (Ps. 1:1-3 NASB).
This Psalm reveals to us the holiness and the happiness of a godly person. His delight is in the law of the Lord. Those who put their trust in the Lord walk upright before Him. They are planted as trees of righteousness. In the heart of a good man comes forth good fruit. Good fruit is produced out of a good heart. The fact is that the Lord knows those who are His. The godly must shun evil and cleave to what is good. Light and darkness have nothing in common. A godly man is righteous in all His ways.
Blessed means to be spiritually well, having joy of heart and spirit, and prosperity, meaning wholeness. Happy, fortunate, and favored, the blessing is applicable to all of God’s children. A blessing is an expression of God’s goodness and love towards His children. They are His gifts, and His gifts are given without repentance; (Rom. 11:29).
Blessed is he who faithfully follows the Lord, who loves Him with his whole heart. A true sign of our love for God is our obedience. If you obey God you can expect His blessings. God seeks those who love Him, He takes delight in His people (Ps. 149:4). We know that we have favor with God because His delight will be demonstrated to us. We begin to see and appreciate the little blessings that God provides for our enjoyment.
The Lord invites us to seek His favor, and in doing so we humble our hearts before Him. Planted as trees of righteousness we seek Him for who He is and not for His blessings. Finding favor with the Lord keeps our lives and thoughts pure because of our desire to be pleasing unto Him. We are blessed and highly favored by God, our loving Father.
Deuteronomy Chapter 28 describes for us blessings for obedience, and curses for disobedience. Matthew Chapter 5 list the Beatitudes given by our Lord on the Sermon of the Mount. In your reading time please don’t hesitate to find out God’s promised blessings for His children.
Bountiful blessings from me to you!
