Today’s Scripture: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” (Heb. 12:2a KJV)
As the author and finisher of our faith, Jesus is the perfecter, creator, the originator of all plans. The Greek meaning of author is “captain, chief leader, or prince.” Christ is the originator of our faith, meaning that faith begins with Him.
As captain, He steers, presides, and is in control of our faith. The NIV translation says, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith. Perfecter literally means “finisher” and speaks of the conclusion of a matter. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Biblical teaching, reading or hearing a sermon about our Lord, or any true gospel of Jesus Christ being communicated is potential for faith.
Keeping the faith requires remembering what brought us to faith in the first place. We need to consistently and intentionally be reminded of God’s grace in our lives. Keeping the faith is about community. Keeping the faith requires a love of truth and a commitment to the Word of God. The Christian life is not lived exclusively between God and the individual. Fellow believers should encourage one another to keep their faith. We should exhort one other when we are going astray.
From beginning to end, Jesus is the source of our faith. He watches over it and sustains it as we walk daily with Him. He is the finisher of our spiritual journey. He that began a good work in us is able to bring it to completion. Keeping the faith involves growth in Christ. God is always at work in our lives. Our faith should be forever growing. We grow from faith to faith, from one degree of faith to another. Faith is pressing forward and gaining the victory over unbelief. For we walk by faith and not by sight.
May the Lord increase your faith as you walk daily with Him. Bountiful blessings to you!
